Hi again everyone,
I was wondering if anyone had a sound file of the Lassie theme played
in the Animal Planet New Lassie series from 1998-1999. I would prefer
a high quality, but any recording will do. I found some lassie wavs
at http://www.soundamerica.com and searched on napster and other mp3
search sites, but never found one.
If anyone can help me find the terrific sound file theme, I'd
appreciate it. I do have the popular MP3 of the Lassie theme on the
TV Hits Volume 4 CD, but none of the other ones.
Thanks.
Sincerely,
Silent Thunder
p.s.
I have not gotten a reply from animalplanet.com e-mail address
regarding as to whether or not the old Lassie episodes will return
*ever* on Animal Planet. I hate that, I only watched Animal Planet
for the Lassie shows.

Ah, well, that shows you how tastes differ. Except for "Have
You Any Wool?" I always thought the all-animal episodes very
dry and dull. But yes, they were always magnificently filmed!

I always found that a very appealling part of the pilot, that
Jeff wanted her home, but he understood that she needed to feel
at home before she would stay with him, no matter how much she
liked him. Some people would have just dragged the dog home as
if it had no feelings.

You can get it with the America's 150 Package--but to get that
one, you have to have the Dish 500 antenna, not the older one,
which is what we have. :-( Sigh. It's summer, the A/C is on,
and that means the electric bill has just doubled. Can't afford
it now.
Darn, and they have that special...

Response to your What's Favorite Episodes
My very favorite Lassie shows are the ones where Lassie is by
herself, with the other animals (the all animal episodes) and no
words need to be spoken to convey the message of Love, respect,
concern, oneness of purpose and the integrity of all animals
everywhere. Awesome, not needed are the words that often times tend
to confuse the issues! And, one of my singular favorites for this
era is "Have You Any Wool?".
In these all animal episodes the photography is great, Lassie as
always is just magnificent, and with her movements, expressions on
her face, body movements, and whines, nudges, woofs and scratches she
conveys a beautiful message. I believe this says a great deal about
the love and respect existing between Lassie and her master.
And of course the very first TV episode "The Inheritance" which has
brought with it lots of truth in what an inheritance of love is
really all about. When Jeff first gets Lassie as his very own, after
having visited her at her original home for almost a year or so, and
now, on paper, in the will, Jeff becomes Lassie's new owner. But
Gramps tells Jeff he can't "make" Lassie stay with him that she has
to do her own deciding, and she returns, several times, to the old
house where her beloved owner had passed away. Jeff realizes he
can't force her so he brings her food and water and just shows her he
cares for her, and when she's sure she can trust him she becomes his
for real. Incidently, Pal is the starr in this pilot episode.
And the episode from the Jeff years called "The Journey" when Gramps
and Ellen discover Lassie is going blind. Jeff takes Lassie on a
long Journey to find a specialist that can restore her sight, and
Jeff offers to give Lassie one of his eyes if that would help her
regain her sight! But, that won't even help the specialist says.
But, the doctor does agree to do a special operation and no one knows
if it will work until the bandages are taken off; and Lassie does see
again. But, once again it's that enduring love that pulls everyone
through.
Every one of those shows taught a lesson of some kind or another.
But, they always were filled with a sense of family, togetherness,
and Love and Respect.
Oh by the way the title to the one with Ellen and Clay is "The Rival"
and I wish they'd followed up on that storyline too! That show could
have continued and even included Timmy!!!!!
Also a question: What package with Dish Net includes Discovery Kids,
if you know. I'm chomping at the bit to get the Lassie shows back.
C-Mack
...or episodes?
LOL. I think I make my own choice clear on my website,
but how about everyone else?
Besides "Lassie's Odyssey" some of my other favorites
are:
All the Timmy Christmas episodes.
"The Trip" (where Lassie's crate gets thrown out of the
baggage car and she chases after the train)
"Lassie's Day" (the Jeff episode where she's left alone
for the day and she and Pokey go wandering around
meeting people)
"Have You Any Wool?" (the only all-animal episode I
really liked; Lassie has to find a home for the lost
black lamb--this was at least humorous!)
"The Journey" (aka LASSIE'S GREAT ADVENTURE) (we get
to see everyone in color!)
I can't remember the title now, but the one where Jeff
and Gramps get jealous when Clay takes Ellen on a date--
I wish they'd followed up on that storyline!
Also the funniest scene I ever remember on a LASSIE may
be that one where Clay explains to Jeff about boy frogs
and girl frogs.

Geez, I'm sorry I'm taking so long to respond these days. Between
work and the 60 mile round trip commute I'm exhausted when I get
home.
So does anyone get Discovery Kids? I think it's WONDERFUL that
they're showing the series in Prime Time. Unfortunately to get it
on Dish TV, you have to upgrade to the Dish 500 system. Since
summer is coming, meaning the nasty $200-$250 electric bills,
we can't afford to get a new dish (even if it is really cheap
now, $75 WITH installation!) and then pay the increase for the
extra channels.
Oh, and to answer Marcy:

Yes, it does. It's a dual something-system which my husband would
know about better because he used to work for DirecTV which is
why we got Dish Network. <g> Also, DirecTV, as of recently anyway,
didn't get any WB stations and we didn't care about watching the
4 other network shows with rabbit ears, but we sure wanted clear
reception on BUFFY and ANGEL.

Hi Linda --
Thanks for the tip on sattelite systems. Does DishTV come with the 2nd
unit to allow satellite on 2 tv's? After watching the news tonight &
seeing the war between Disney & Time Warner & all the angry subscribers
who can't get their "Millionaire" even my husband is thinking that
satellite may be a good idea! It's funny how people will tolerate a lot
of things, but touch my television access & ....! This week I saw
advertisements for Discovery Kids on regular tv. What a tease! Marcy

LOL. Mudd was on Ch. 7 and Bozo on 6. That way it was easy to
switch between them in the mornings, deciding if the Jeff
episode or the Timmy episode was more of a favorite.

Man, I'm glad we got rid of cable then! Our picture was
horrible anyway.
If you can get a clear view of the Southwest, the dish will
be fine.
I think it's terrific that DK is running the shows in prime
time. There's not a lot on anymore that I want to watch anyway.

Anyway, I was surfing on ClickTV for one program and noticed
Discovery Kids is actually showing TIMMY AND LASSIE and

Hi Linda --
I grew up in Randolph, Mass but am "temporarily residing" in
western Mass... for 17 years. I'm not sure what channel Major Mudd or
Bozo was on, It's been so many years past. I don't know why I'm hooked
on these shows but I think it's a life- long thing. If it's on, I'll
watch it. I don't think they're "boring" (my sister's input). I'd rather
watch these shows than the junk that's on prime- time.
When MediaOne cut their broadcast of the Lassie series (we got the
Infomation Channel for 6 hours) I started saying to my husband "We
should get satellite". I even checked out which service carried the
stations. Unfortunately we live in a condo so even if we had the dish on
the ground, I'm not sure if we can aim the sucker at the right angle.
If we are getting digital cable in a few months, I think I can hold on.
When Animal Planet dropped the Lassie shows, I emailed discovery.com &
got a reply (!), Lassie + he restof the animal series' run from 11:00 AM
(EST) to 1:30 PM. Their phone # for inquiries is 1-888-404-5969.
I bought some of the Lassie tapes from amazon.com already. In fact,
when I went online, that was one of the first things I investigated!

Hi Kitt --
For some reason, Nick played the Jeff shows only 2 or 3X around, the
Timmy ones seem ubiquitous. The Jeff shows were the original Lassie
series, from 1954-57, starring Jan layton, George Cleveland, Tommy
Rettig, and of course, Lassie. Even tho' the series' is over 40 years
old, they dealt with situations that are relevant today -- Jeff's
fatherlessness, guns, family issues. Marcy
I sure feel lost, I do not even know who Jeff is!!! I only watched Lassie
with Timmy, and of course the moives, some of them.......so I am in the dark.
Kitt
Marcy
Hallelujah at least somebody knows where to get the Lassie shows.
Now all I have to do is run out and buy a Sat. dish.
But to keep watching Lassie it will be worth it.
I've been watching since Jeff and Lassie first aired and don't think I've
missed many.
I never get tired of the shows.

It was Channel 10, and yeah, they also did run it for awhile, at
seven
in the morning, as I remember...or was that Ch. 6?

You can get them if you have satellite as well; Dish Network just
picked up the rest of the Discovery "family." I wouldn't have cable
again unless someone picked up the tab.
So it did go over to Discovery Kids, eh? When during the day is it
scheduled? I was silly enough never to stick a tape in when the
black and white Corey Stuart episodes were showing. I could have
sworn that in "Incident of the Eagle" that Corey mentions Timmy...
but I never saw the episode again to find out.
Marcy, if you get the 10-tape set you at least get a few Jeff
episodes, including the pilot episode.

Nope, I'm sure there's a lot of us out here.
I never stopped watching LASSIE--I can't remember not watching it.
I started on Timmy--Corey Stuart showed up when I was eight-going-
on-nine. Every time one of the independent stations started a new
run--first Channel 6 in New Bedford, then Channel 7 in Boston,
then 27 in Worcester--I'd be there. My mom and dad just shook
their heads. I even got up early some mornings to watch the
episodes they squeezed into those kids' shows like Bozo and
Major Mudd.
One of the reasons I was in a hurry to get cable was that
Nickelodeon was running the Timmy episodes. Most of the Timmy
eps I have I taped off Nickelodeon. It used to come on after
BELLE AND SEBASTIAN for the longest time. When Nick put the
Jeff eps on, I taped those, too.
I don't have all of them; I just taped my favorites, though.
Didn't have that much tape!

Yes, it looks like they are gone. Some folks have suggested
that maybe it's gone over to the Discovery Kids Channel--has
anyone looked there? (I've been training a new employee at work
and just want to flop when I get home.) And then I had heard
another rumor that it was going to go to yet another cable
channel altogether.
There's another set that I've seen at MediaPlay under what
I thought was a horrendous price...maybe $60 or something?
It was seven tapes and included in it "Lassie and the
Fugitive," a two-part Corey Stuart episode that also featured
"Spike," the dog who played Old Yeller, and the four-parter
(on two tapes) "The Road Back" (with Scott Turner), but
most of the other tapes were included on the 10-tape set,
like "Lassie's Gift of Love."
I got the 10-tape set because "Lassie's Odyssey" was in it,
of course. <g>

Some of the episodes that were three and four parters were
made into "movies"--I think a couple of them were released
on video, but I'll bet they are out of print. You might try
searching on "Lassie" at some of the bigger sites that sell
DVDs and videos, like Amazon.com.
I know there is another set of episodes like the 10-tape set;
I've seen at Media Play. That has at least one Corey Stuart
story in the bunch, "Lassie and the Fugitive."
Wish they'd have a set of those too. As dull as I thought most
of the all-animal episodes were, I would LOVE to have a copy
of "Have You Any Wool?" which is the one where Lassie tries
to get the lost lamb back to its mother. It has the added
charm of a little humor.
As for the "name" problem, I dunno that we can do anything
about it. It isn't like Golden Books decision to use the
Canadian-trained collie in some of the new series episodes
instead of a Weatherwax Lassie--it was a legit sale.
The Weatherwaxes made the sale; they just don't have a
chance to buy it back because of Golden Books' bankruptcy.
(Gee, who would have thought the company that brought us
THE POKEY LITTLE PUPPY would ever do that? <wry g>)

Does anyone know if videos of the Lassie series with Robert Bray

there anything we can do to help restore the Lassie name to the

Hi,
Sorry it's taken me so long to get back...been busy this week doing another
project. Now that that's over...whew.
The only place I have seen the LASSIE'S RESCUE RANGERS videos occasionally
is E-bay. Most of the time what they sell of LRR is original animation
cels, but sometimes there's a video or two in there. You need to go through
the entire "Lassie" list, though (at present there are 380 Lassie oriented
items up for auction, although some of them are not connected with the
show) and not search for "Lassie's Rescue Rangers" because usually it is
just listed under "Lassie."
Anyone know if Cartoon Network has ever shown LRR? I know they have shown
the STAR TREK animated series, which came on the same year and was also
done by Filmation (darn near everything was done by Filmation in the 70s...).
I know CN is forming another channel, Boomerang, just for the older
cartoons like Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear, etc. Since they'll have another
channel to fill, maybe they will pick up more of the limited run cartoons
including LRR. (I'd love to see the FANTASTIC VOYAGE series again...)

Hi there
Gee, just the two of us huh? Hope we get some more members. I found the list
because of my interest in Jon Provost (and of course Lassie). I loved the
show as a child and as an adult. I did see some of the new series with Jon as
an adult, but was nto too happy with them. I also seen him on General
Hospital, and he was on The Dating Game once. I adore Lassie. If it has been
shown here, it was a long time ago, nobody here knows anything about the
show. And it has not been on in the last five years, nor have any of the
movies, and Germany is full of movies on tv, of course they are all in German
dubbed over.
I hate the videos in SLP, I can only see them on my German vcr if they are in

Hi, Kitt--
You're the first member...welcome. I'm hoping to get more!
I recently heard from someone who said the Animal Planet channel was
no longer running the black and white LASSIE episodes...arrrgh!
Although I had heard another rumor that they were going to be shown
by another cable channel; don't remember the name of it, though.
We don't get it on Dish Network, though. Perhaps they'll release
more videotapes? (Although I was disappointed in the new collection
of videos as they were recorded at SLP.)
I thought LASSIE had been shown in Germany--I guess not recently,
though. I'm not surprised if they did not pick up the new series; I
considered it a little dull.
Did you ever catch THE NEW LASSIE episodes with Jon Provost as an
adult? I hear he sells either real estate or insurance today. He
was just remarried.
Linda

I receive a lot of e-mail from my "Unofficial LASSIE Website" and
I thought I'd try a mailing list so that the folks who have talked
to me can talk to each other as well. I'd love to hear which episodes
of the "classic" series were your favorite(s) or which of the
formats you liked better, if you thought the sequel series lived
up to the original, which of the movies you enjoy.
Or still more: if you had to design a LASSIE series, what would
you make it like? What actor or actress might be good in a LASSIE
series? If you were making a LASSIE movie, would you make a sequel
to the latest film, or do an entirely new story? Do you have any
memories of a Lassie personal appearance? What do Lassie fans think
of the "Fantasy Island" TAXI episode (personally, I hated it!).
And as I said in this group's header, I'd really love to hear from
someone who remembers the radio series! I have two episodes on LP
and wonder if they really give the flavor of the show.
Hope folks wander by to chat...
Thanks,
Linda
