The judges did scold everyone who did the lifts. I didn't see the error in the dance that Jerry did. I'll have to go back and watch the tape again. They told Emmitt, "No lifts, why did you put that in there?" Then they scolded Joey with "no lifts, why the gymastics, stick to the dance." They told Willa, no lifts. They were worst with Mario because he had done it last week and came back and did the same thing. I tell you who ever comes back better stick by the rules next week or the show is going to get ugly!
I do have to agree that Sara's dance was nice and a great improvement over last week but really it was not a jive much. It was more like pepped up line dancing. You really can't to the quick flicking of the feet in cowboy boots.
Mario DID do the dance, and he did it very well. He was fantastic. Even the judges had to admit that. What they didn't like was that he broke the hold with Karina to do a roll. I read that the reason for this was Karina's injury, that she had difficulty holding these positions. It was to make it easier on her. Len also asked whose idea it was to do that, and Karina hid behind Mario. If you recall, they were arguing over whether to do something (in the rehearsal footage), and many think that was it, that Mario was hesitant. Even if he wasn't, and he wanted to make the dance easier for her, I could understand that. It's amazing that she was able to dance with him at all, given her injury. I thought they handled the crisis beautifully. In fact, if this were Season 1, they would have scored 3 10's
for how they danced and in spite of the obvious handicap.
Now ... if they want to be "picky" about following the rules to the letter, they should have chastized Sara for her country version of the jive which just about slipped under technically -- in the view of some and not others. As many feel that was no jive. Also she was slow, and the jive is fast. She did not have the flicks and kicks down. She was a bit awkward and stiff. It was barely a jive, if you can even call it that, and things were thrown in that the judges could have called them on. It was just good dancing, really. Jerry also should have been chastized if they want to be picky.
Mario did the tango. So anyone who maintains Sara did the jive, well there should be no double standard.

Yes, the judges were on a tear. I don't believe it for a minute, though. I think this is all staged to keep two very superior dancers from shining every week. I am talking about Mario and Joey. The real pro dancers know better than to disregard the rules. I don't believe the fighting of Willa and Maks either. I think that is staged too. It's called show biz folks. <g> Will it keep me from watching the show? No.
And can someone tell me why Vivica did not do the jive like the other ladies did? I don't remember them doing that the last two seasons; the men all did the same dance and the ladies did another. That doesn't jive, pardon the pun, either. Ah well.
IMHO Monique blew them all away. Next year I wish they would
let us vote for who should go home, not who should stay. Harry and Jerry would get my vote.

I think that the judges are right about the couples following the rules laid out. The professionals should step up to the plate and not put the lifts into the routines. I do enjoy watching them though. Melissa
I agree. They are not very kind, really, all trying to be like Simon Cowel. Sometimes you don't have to be so cruel, you know? They talk to Mario as if he were a little boy, yelling and scolding him. He's a man. If they want to say something, fine, but treat him with some respect.

Karina's injury happened hours before the live show. Doctors had to be called. She was in excruciating pain, and people were worried she wouldn't be able to dance.

There were two times that Mario broke the hold or position of the tango during the middle of the dance. One was with the roll and the other was with some moves a little bit after the roll. They did NOT put the roll and other moves in AFTER Karina's injury. They practiced them ALL week. You cannot say that he did that to help her out because of the pain because they practiced them all week. That is a crock!!!
Mario planned it. Mario wanted it. Mario thought it was better t.v. Mario has to take his lumps!
Was it a tango? Yes, but not to the rules. Was it great dancing? YES! Was Mario disrepectful to the judges by AGAIN not sticking to the rules? YES! He threw their comments last week into their FACES!!! A definant TEENAGE BOY.
They treated Mario like a boy because he is acting like a teen age boy. Teenagers you tell them NOT to do something and they do it. Mario was told to stick to the dance and he did not stick to the dance. Teenager! They always think they know better. I think the dance was wonderful. Great entertainment BUT it was not by the rules.

I agree with you. On last week's show they chastised him for the same thing and then he turned around and did the same thing. He was also lame for the reason he gave for doing it - to give the audience more fun. He still needs to adhere to the rules that are set.

I agree with you about the Pros. They know the rules. They are
playing the role of teacher. They should have started with the
rules, just like every teacher does the first day of school.

I think that Willa had a very valid point. Some people vote based on
popularity not dancing. I think that is very unfair when it is
a 'dancing' contest. I think it would be a shame if she went home

could bring more to future episodes as the competition gets tougher.

Absolutely. I understand that the judges want to adhere to
professional standards of judging, however, what they seem to fail to
realize is that a vast majority of the people who watch are not
professionals or have any even seen professional competition. The
people who watch just want to be entertained and some of the rules just
restrict the stars from doing what they do best... entertain.

Unfortunately, Willa's comment came across as saying she needed the win or
deserved it more, and that the other celebrities had an advantage over her because they were award winners, etc. It is true they have fan bases, and she doesn't.
But all over the ABC boards, she's being accused of bashing the other
contestants and whining. I don't think that is going to help her win the popularity
contest, and that's what she was trying to do.
I like her and have liked her from the beginning. I think she's a great dancer.
But what she needed was popularity, and the comments last night backfired,
especially since the dance fell short of what people expected of her.

I don't think you know for a fact whether they altered the routine to accomodate her injury, which happened hours before. (I believe it, but it is a question of who you believe.) Nor do you know Mario planned it. Karina is the choreographer and when Len asked whose decision it was, she hid behind Mario. I believe he didn't think they would get in trouble for what they did, since they mosty delivered the tango and an awesome one, with a handicap. I don't agree he did it to be defiant. I do think he wanted to do well, and I'm sure that's what they all want, and they will all try to give it that extra something.
I also don't care if they have to constructively critique something. You can still treat people with respect. This is pretty new to him, and I think he has relied on Katrina's expertise. If anything, she has let him down.
Sara and Jerry should have been
held to the same standard that Mario was.
Also, in Season 1 there were a lot of things people just got away with - even Season 2. Look how long it took Len to slam Master P, and he actually deserved it.
Nope, sorry, couldn't disagree with you more.

- but.............part of the cool thing about Dancing With the
Stars is that it has gave new life to ballroom and latin dancing and
elevated it's popularity to mainstream. Mario, Joey and the others
are great dancers and they don't need to break the rules of ballroom
or atin dances to stand out or entertain. There has to be some
guidelines for wahat can and can't be performed otherwise sooner or
later there won't be dances like the foxtrot or tango etc. It
would just be a dance routine in which case instead of getting pro
ballromm and latin dancers they could just get paula abdul and janet
jackson to choreograph their routines.
In Mario's case I have to wonder what he was thinking after last
week but most of the blame go to their pro partners. Do they not
know the rules?

my sister and i live in 2 different states and we were trying to
figure where we saw him before. i checked the web and they said he was

wasnt he also on facts of life...could somebody please email me and
let me know...i would apprecitate it and get some pictures from back
then....thank you....sharon....later..
I don't see that there was a double standard. They docked Emmitt, Joey and Mario for the violations they did in the dance. For Mario, this was the second week in a row that he had done that. The judges mentioned it last week and it seems like they vented their frustration that he didn't listen. It reminds me of when Master P continued to do his own thing last season - not wearing the proper shoes, not performing to a better level. They became increasingly frustrated with him but at first they were cool with him.
So true. He needs to get with the program and do the dances like the majority is doing and stop with this showboatinng. The same goes for Joey :(
