Hello! Strwriter here, writing from the new address!

All communications involving the 2000 Due Credit Awards will now take place
through this address, Strwriter139@.... The Due Credit main page has
been adapted to reflect this. The 2000 Due Credit Awards are still found at
http://www.geocities.com/strwriter139/duecredit.html

I am up to my ears in coding, working out nearly 1,000 links for hundreds of
stories nominated in 30 categories. The voting pages WILL be up by midnight
of July 1, but I simply do not have time to do that AND change all the email
links on the nomination forms for three days use.

Therefore, the last three days of nomination will have to be made manually.
Please follow the instructions for "Early Bird Nominations" to do this.
Those instructions can be found at
http://www.geocities.com/strwriter139/DCArulesregs.html I'm very sorry for
this inconvenience, but I simply can't get all those links changed for only
three days, considering how much else I'm doing at the moment, and how tight
my deadline is.

Hello! I'm a new member of this group and I just thought that I would
introduce myself. My name is Melody. I first got into due South when I saw
it on TNT. After I began watching it, I realized that I had actually seen
some of the episodes before, I just hadn't been interested in it at the time
(slaps herself silly). This is an EXCELLENT show!! Well, just thought I
would talk for a while. Bye!!

Subject: Due Credit Awards Voting OPEN!
Strwriter139@...
Send Email Send Email

Voting for the 2000 Due Credit Awards is now officially open on 20 of 29
categories. The categories not responding are having the coding finished,
and will be up by tomorrow. The categories of "Best Author" and "Best New
Author" are up, but not completely updated with every author’s response link.
This does not mean you can’t vote for any author on the ballot. (Also, does
ANYONE know a way to write HTML automatically? I’ve individually typed every
letter of code on every single page, and I don’t think I could do it again
next year!)

I have received several queries as to why the voting system is set up with
variable points. The answer is that it offers the most flexibility to you,
the reader and voter. There were four basic voting systems I looked at, all
of which had been used with varying success on other internet awards
programs.

1: Single flat votes. One vote per voter in each category. All votes have
equal weight. This requires the voter to choose a single story in each
category, and to throw the entire weight of their vote behind it.

2: Multiple flat votes. The voter can choose as many stories as they want to
vote for in each category, but each vote counts equally.

3: Multiple ranked votes. The voter can choose a certain number of stories
to vote for in each category, but must place them in order (1st, 2nd, 3rd).
Points are awarded according to how the story is ranked.

4: Multiple varied votes. The voter can vote for as few or as many stories
as they would like, and can choose the strength of each vote.

I chose the last system for the Due Credits. If a voter likes two stories
equally, he or she may throw equal weight behind the votes. If a voter likes
one story a little more than a second, but still wants to give the second a
vote, they may vote for one more than another. If a story makes a strong
impression, the voter may give a strong vote. If the story makes an
acceptable impression, the voter may make a minimal vote.

No system is perfect, but I feel that this offers the most freedom to the
voter. For a full explanation of the Due Credit 2000 voting process, please
visit the website.

Please forward this to all applicable lists and newsgroups.

Hi, everyone!

Long time, no hear. I didn't disappear - just faded for a while.

I'm going to see Paul in Hamlet next month (Aug. 18th). A few
people from another list I'm on will be there at the same time
and we're going to hang out Friday (before and after the play) and
Saturday. Anyone else going to be around at that time, feel free to
join the crew.

I've also collected a large number of articles about Paul's
appearence at Stratford. If anyone would like a copy, send me a note
off list and I'll get them to you asap.

Bye for now!

Okay, as you've probably guessed (since there haven't been any page updates),
I've had some problems with the DCA's. Geocities wasn't letting me edit my
pages since I switched main email addresses, and it took me until tonight to
work it out. Since it's 12:15 right now, I won't be able to fix all the
pages tonight. But tomorrow morning, I am going to get online first thing,
upload all the finished category pages so that you can vote in all
categories, and update all the authors who have responded to me. I will also
send out second notifications to all authors who haven't responded (very few,
thankfully!) Terribly sorry for all the mess and delays! I WILL get this
thing working right if it kills me!

As always, forward this anywhere relevant.

Okay! All the links are up and working now, with the exception of "Best Gen
Poem" and "Best Parody Or Filk". Those @^$*!$# things corrupted in the
uploading, and I'll have to start over again with the code. All in all,
though, I'm happy, because those are two very small categories with less than
a half dozen nominations each, and all the others are now up and functional.

The Best Author page has now also been updated. Unfortunately, I've been
told that somewhere in transferring the lists from the nomination emails to
the search engines to the url lists to the final html code, that a few of the
Best Series nominees have been lost. Back to the old drawing board.

Just a note, as this has now come up several times:

When submitting a vote for Best Original Character, type the CHARACTER'S NAME
in the box, NOT the title of the story. Several stories (Illumination,
Senseless, A Time And A Place) have multiple characters nominated, and it is
impossible to know who to give the vote to.

I have been notified that assistants have been found (thank you kindly,
whoever you are), and the assistants will be activated tonight. They will be
updated on the tallies to date, and from now on, will be automatically
forwarded copies of every vote.

Also, I have been alerted to the problems with the Best Series page, and will
address them as soon as I get home from work.

My favorite is Mountie on the Bounty. It has everything I love, pirates,
ships, action and adventure. I love the songs Fraser sings and I love Fraser
and Ray in the sinking ship and later swinging from the ropes. Its a very
exciting episode. I also though Frannie was really funny interrogating the
suspect.

Mine has to be Victoria's Secret - not only my favourite DS episode, but IMO
the best, most moving, most dramatic and perfect piece of TV ever. Plot twists,
great acting, great characters and oh, that music!

After that, All The Queen's Horses - love the surreal aspects, the humour ,
the music and the interaction between Ben and the gorgeous Meg, and Mountie
on the Bounty - even more surreal (let's make the RCMP into a fully-fledged
naval power! LOL) and I love the music.

Other faves are Bird in the Hand and Dead Men Don't Throw Rice, plus Vault for
Frannie's nuttiness, but I love every episode in different ways. I'd love Call
of the Wild a lot more if I wasn't so sad it was the last ever episode!

I don't remember the title but I loved the one where they are taking the
prisoner to Canada-I think it's the one where they torch the riviera-anyway
the humor and the sly digs on Canadians are just great-plus that character
had another episode on DS where he had the alien tour bus.
And we also get to see Dean McDermott play a bad guy(Obviously before they
turned him into a mountie)!

My favorite episode (for now) is North. Fraser's
completely out-of-character behaviour makes me laugh
like crazy. And it's kind of sweet all that Ray does
for Fraser when he needs him the most. This extreme
situation really strenghens their friendship. It's
also intersting that Ray and Fraser's roles completely
switch.

"My God Ray. Another plane crash. What are the odds?"
-Fraser
"It's our plane crash, you moron." -Ray V

"You're in charge of being blind, and I'm in charge of
seeing. Any part I left out? Good." -Ray V

hi,

someone may have already answered this cause i havent read all my mail yet:)
was one of those episodes with the guy (ian i think was his name) called
"starman" (maybe the alien one). i dont know if i knew dean mcdermott
played a bad guy (i probably saw him but didnt know it was him maybe)..which
episode was it..that is very interesting. what do you think: was he good at
playing a bad guy or was he better as a mountie? i guess i shoulda watched
"power play" when it was still on in US to find out about his acting eh? i
think i've seen him in something else, but i cant recall what it was.

have a great weekend.

"Starman" is the second season episode with Ian in it and yes, it's
the alien one. The other episode that Ian was in and that Dean
McDermott played a bad guy was the first season episode "The Man Who
Knew Too Little." Hope that helps. In my opinion, I preferred him as
a mountie. I thought it was pretty funny how he was always giving
Fraser fits. TYK

hi stellar and everyone,

i like what you said about "north". i like that episode too it is
interesting seeing benny "out of character"..which adds alot of humour...i
think it is neat that benny doesnt panic in the face of being blind and
paralyzed..ray and him are very funny.
i also like "letting go" my favorite scenes are the pool scene, the scene
where ray and benny are talking after ray gives him the saw, and the scene
where ray takes a bullet for benny and of course the window scene always
makes me laugh.

ps. i like your quotes at the bottom too
