I bought two Ultraoptix magnifier sheets.
I was wondering if they were any good in making a projection tv.
I am also using a 13" CRT tv. I really don't want to play around with
the yoke. How can I do this with the things that I have.

it is great. even though my flat monitor was very good this is far better. the pixels are not noticeable after a while. sometimes you're just to close. if you get to close to an lcd you can see pixels. the bigger the screen the further back you should be.
i see my desktop much better than my diy flat monintor projector. i like that you can plug the video composite out from my ati 8500dv video card. to the zoombox. and i use the earphone out to plug into my stereo.
my papersilver screen just does a fantastic job with the zoombox. as it did with the diy projector. the zoombox is so much lighter an far less cumbersom. just my opinion. plus it is cheaper than a dlp one.

Just browsing around for projectors lately(since I dropped my last one down the stairs) And I was just wondering if anyone had heard anything about this?! Any screen shots or anything? The customer reviews are good but I wouldn't mind a second opinion from some true Projection fans.

i have not played with these diy tv projectors in some time now, but if your just getting started with them, then just pickup a cheap fresnel lens from office depot or what have you and build a cardboard box to hold the lens in front of your crt tv.
as for the backwards picture. only safe way is to flip the tv. if you really want to you could open the back of the tv and switch the 2 wires... i did this once on my small 14" tv when i first started in this hobby and it worked well. it also corrected the mirror image so you can read text properly ..

Thankies to everyone who replied about the doc viewer. Between the time of my original post and the time my post appeared on the list (which was a few days later), I thought...well...if there's a free pdf viewer, maybe there's a free doc viewer and sure enough, found one! :D
I've been enjoying my big screen TV. I'm in the process of making a roller coaster video. Now THAT should be fun to watch!
you can download the office suite program more or lees like ms office but its free
no gizmos or gimics, i've had it for a few years now and quite happy with it
if the url don't work, go to google.com and type in Open Office and hit search
down load the program suit and install it, follow the on screen prompts...
all i ask is just say thanks for the link hi hi

Hi
New member here just wanting to pop on and say HI and TY for this wealth of information!!!
I've been playing around with the fresnel tv projector thing recently experimenting with all kinds of stuff on my own but nothing is working to my satisfaction. I figured there's probably a way to get this to focus better so did a bit of Googling and found this egroup. TY for being here.
Some of the designs and ideas are just wonderful! Can't wait to try them out.
I don't have MS Word on my computer so I'm not able to read some of the ".doc" files in the files sections. If someone can make those to .pdf, that would be freaking awesome.
My main problem is focus and "glare". The light is like spilling over, washing everything out, making it all fuzzy. I tried different things to correct this. One of them being making a panel and putting it in front of the lens with a smaller hole. This helped by giving me a much more focused image, but the image was too dark to make it fun to watch.
I was contemplating getting a polarizing filter to see if that would help.
Part of my problem is using a cheap 330mm lens. I know I have to get a better one.
I didn't know about the baffle, I'll give that a try.
Question 1) My research tells me that "the shorter the focal length, the stronger the lens" is. Would a 200mm lens not be better than the 300-500mm lens that's been talked about here?
Question 2) Flipping the vertical/horizontal connections on the TV: Will I be able to read words displayed on the screen after projection (do words appear correctly on the screen)?
Thank you so much. I hope I have not asked questions that have already been asked...I tried searching, but nothing came up.

I don't have your answers, however I do have a solution to your
problem with not being able to read DOC files. You should try
OpenOffice, it is "open source" software and its free!

it will open most MS Office files...
Good luck and have fun!

Hi,
To fine tune your tv for crt projection it's a must to be able to
access your tv's service settings. Do you have access to them on
your tv? If you leave the make and model of your tv I can see if I
can help find them.
Apart from contrast,I think the RED and BLUE colour drivers can
darken a picture and maybe if you try moving them down a bit it
might help.
I think I've finally settled on what I think is the optimal
settings on my tv and all movies are looking good now with a clear
picture and good colour.I increased the gain and luminosity on the
tv and set the RGB drivers at about 65% RED,60% GREEN,63% BLUE. At
first I though it would be best to have all RGB drivers at 100% but
the colour was not natural and too cartoony. After experimenting
with a lot of different settings I found the best picture. When
watching movies now I can really appreciate the high quality images.
It took a lot of adjustments to tv and screen and experimentation to
go from having a newbie diy crt projection to having a really
quality picture. It's a fun project and the results are really worth
it.

it's just as good as in the movie theatre (eg Matrix
trilogy,Underworld,Terminator 1-3)whilst other movies and tv shows
the quality is pretty good and enjoyable to watch.
Music clips also look excellent.
Dark scenes in films that are lit with artificial light show up
better than daytime scenes shot in natural sunlight.
I wonder if crt tv's reduce their light emission with daytime scenes
or if it's something to do with the exposure at the filming source.
Has anyone else noticed this with their projectors?
