i have not played with these diy tv projectors in some time now, but if your just getting started with them, then just pickup a cheap fresnel lens from office depot or what have you and build a cardboard box to hold the lens in front of your crt tv.

as for the backwards picture. only safe way is to flip the tv. if you really want to you could open the back of the tv and switch the 2 wires... i did this once on my small 14" tv when i first started in this hobby and it worked well. it also corrected the mirror image so you can read text properly ..
