Lea’s Most Excellent Road Trip:
Using this time on my long bus ride back home to Kansas City, Missouri; I
have decided to use this time to reflect on what has been going on with me
since the last 10 days. But before I get into telling you all the details of my
east coast road trip to see Constantine play six different shows in three
different states. I must say that this has to be the best road trip I have ever
been on.
Not only did he put on a fantastic performance each and every night, and
this was with him being sick the first part of the tour. He was very gracious at
every show. And when I wasn’t seeing him on stage or at talking to him at
the meeting greets, I got to talk to other fans that I had met and previous
shows in the past; and had the pleasure to meet, for the first time, those I
have talked to on one of the three fan boards have been posting on.
But like with all things it is best to start with the beginning.
Day One: My flight into Philly on Feb 19th. I arrived at the airport here at
KCI at 7 am in the morning to catch the plane to Philly; which had a 3 hour
layover at the airport in Nashville. So I used that time to have my nails
done. Even with the layover in Nashville, I managed to arrive in Philly an hour
before scheduled. And was at the venue with my big hot pink duffle bag around
5 pm or before. Of course the first thing I asked was if we could have
cameras or not. And of course we could. The Club Constantine played in had a
reddish tint to it that made a lot of your photos look reddish. But it wasn’t
as
bad if you video taped it. So since I had 5 2 gig SD cards. I both Video taped
and took stills. I tried not to video tape the same songs for each night.
Gratefully Constantine surprised us with adding in different songs each night.
And I must say I really enjoyed having Ben play with Con. I thought Ben was a
very fun person and had fit Constantine’s personality very well. Of course
even though he did not show it much on the stage, Constantine had been
suffering from the flu at the time. Yet he had taken the time to meet each and
every
one of his fans. One of them turned out to be an old high school class mate
that had come to the show with their spouse.
The Second show I had attended was the Highland ball room in NYC on Feb
22nd. The club it’s self was right next door to a grocery store call Western
Beef
that was right in the middle of the Industrial part near Greenwich Village.
When I arrived there after 4pm there was already other fans lined up to go
inside And listening to Constantine doing his sound check. This was the only
show that I had attended this week that had both Marc Copely and Clancy playing
on stage with Constantine and Ben. Since my first time meeting Marc and
Clancy was brief, I couldn’t talk to them as much as I would have liked to. I
did
think they were nice. A guy named Freddy also joined them on stage that
night. Playing what looked like the neck of a guitar. I am sure there is a name
for it. I don’t know it. I did talk to him before Constantine went on stage
and before I knew he was part of the band. He seemed pretty nice. Surprisingly
my best photos of the tour; especially Constantine came from this show. And
this was the only show he did not do a meet and greet. He was still sick from
the flu that he had at the show I saw him in at Philly. I did get to talk to
him briefly to wish him to get feeling better.
The 3rd show I had attended was on Feb 24th in Arlington, Va at the Iota.
This show was performed around 4pm that day. Of course I had started out at the
front of the stage by the speakers when I had spotted two little girls who
where sisters. They had come to the show with their dad. One looked like she
was 7 or 8 years old and the other looked like she was 4 or 5 years old that
were standing behind me. So I put both them in front of me so they could see
better. Besides I knew that Constantine would notice them right off. Of course
before the concert started the youngest one asked me if Constantine would
even see her and I told her yes that I was sure he would notice her and her
sister and sure enough he did. And it was neat because you could see the light
beaming from these little girls facing when he would walk right up to them and
sing. At one point he even had them sing along.
Any how after the show one of the Teen’s fathers came up to me and said “
You know what you did for them little girls was really nice.”
Of course I told him that I was much taller than the little girls and knew
that Constantine would enjoy seeing them up there. And he did.
After that he told me “that still was nice of you. None of those other women
up there would have never done that.”
Of course I met the little girls’ father after the show.
My 4th show was the Rams Head Tavern on Feb 25th in Annapolis Maryland. It
was a good show, but my seats were not as good as they had been at the other
shows. So my photos of the show are not as good as some I had taken at some of
the other shows I had attended on this leg. I did make friends with a gal
that was very peppy and out spoken. And we got a little loud and carried away.
Anyhow back to the show. When Constantine was singing the T-shirt song. Not
only did someone give him a t-shirt, but they had also given him a purple rain
album. And he was going. “I am so putting this on Ebay tomorrow and went
ooops, you all didn’t hear that. After that he was explaining to everyone
about
seeing Prince at that recent LA concert and was saying Prince was right in
front of him playing his guitar. And Constantine takes his hand and holds it
about 2 feet off the ground and is saying Prince stands about this high with
his eight inch platform heels; hearing him talking about how short Prince was,
was funny.
Show #5 The Show in Charlottesville, Va at the Gravity lounge On Feb 27th.
This was an interesting little club. It was in this little outdoor mall with
cobble stone walk ways that was away from the busy streets. Now normally we don
’t get to see hide or hair of Constantine until the show. This time we got to
say hello to him before the sound check. On this particular day he had rode
to the venue with Athan, Ben, Jamie and Claire. And of course by that point
poor Athan had caught the Flu that Constantine had earlier that week.
I had also made a few new friends at this show. I volunteered to take photos
of this gal and her two Daughters with Constantine with my camera and told
her when I got home I would email her a copy of the photos I took of them with
Con. Of course at the show Constantine made one lucky fan very happy. He was
singing the T-shirt song and a young lady who had a handicap had one of her
friends toss a shirt she that had belonged to her up on stage and Constantine
was telling the audience how much he liked the shirt and had asked who’s it
was and the girl said it was her and Con asked her what her name was. Then
dedicated a song to her. And of course he made this girl’s night. I talked to
her briefly after she had met Constantine and she was still beaming. Her
friends she was with had her sit down while they carried her walker up the
stairs.
And her female friend asked her if she was ok. And the girl told her yes and
with her face still beaming from the after glow said; “I am going to
remember this night for as long as I live.”
My sixth show the final show in Richmond, Va Feb 28th. Yes you guessed it. I
decided to go to the last show. And let me tell you it was well worth it. I
had decided by the end of the Charlottesville show to go. It all depended on
if I could get a bus to Richmond in time. Which I did. Of course I was there
when they opened and the club/diner was nice enough to let me hang in there
until the show started. The show was excellent. And this was a nice way to cap
off a wonder week and give me time to give everyone a proper good-bye.
Now the usual crowd that I had met at past shows was at the most if not all
the shows I had attended. And as always it is nice to see everyone and to
visit with them. And of course I met some other fans for the first time in
person that I have been wanting to meet for the longest time. And let me tell
you
it was well worth the wait. I’ll be honest, but I am a member of three
different fan boards. That out of respect to them, I will not mention the names
of
the fandom’s or the fans in this report. I will say that I enjoyed my time
with all of them as it made the trip even that much more special for me. All I
can say is this was well worth the trip. I even made a few new friends along
the way and even managed to do some more sight seeing when I was in New York
City; including getting to see the statue of Liberty and seeing the WTC
museum and the site of what will be the WTC memorial.
Any how I hope everyone liked my report. Photos and Videos will be coming
soon.
