So the ash of ashicon is making me do this (that would be
shadowcrawler). She gets bored a lot and drags me along with her.
There's a Shi in ashicon too but she doesn't appreciate the genius of
JoA like we do. To catch up with the group, last weeks episode was
groovy but what's up with that lawsuit? I think the writer's need to
rethink that whole story line because there is a thing as too much
drama. Let's Celebrate now, shall we?

shadowcrawler and Payton-
Thanks for sending me the info on 33 west. I'm gonna have to check them out.

Payton-
I've gotta tease (sorry)... so far you're the closest one to his age so you have the best shot at him. Mini Michael works for me only he's not mini anymore- he'd totally dwarf me. But seriously how cute is that picture- he's so little. Lucky he outgrew it- the short stage. I didn't. He reminds me of all the basketball players in high school that used to use me for a leaning post. Only I'm betting on him being nicer than they were.

sir_fireboard-
I didn't ask her her age...to be honest I'm surprised she even answered my height question...I thought I was being pretty intrusive. But she seems pretty accommodating maybe we should just ask her what we want to know for the bios. Like why I have 2 different sites saying she graduated from 2 different colleges.Which one is it already- Chicago or London? But anyway- how cool is it that she plays such an imposing character and she's so little? I mean I'm only 5 foot 4 so she comes up to like my eyebrows or something.

c_vansise-
How's this for an option? Grace is the one that winds up breaking the contract. I think that should have been included cause she's worse at hiding this than Luke...god help Glynnis if she ever crosses Grace over Luke...I'd bet the whole thing would come out then.

I think there should be another option where the contract remains in
effect but slowly, gradually shifts to Luke's favor.

I've seen the latter before, Zia runs a ton of great "Roswell"

like.. Mini Michael. [Okay, so he's a bit older than me, I can still
call him mini, right?]

You can get some of them at Borders, but I downloaded a few off of..
uhm.. http://www.diepopstar.com or http://KPunk.com or might have
been http://www.jadetree.com

I've got a lot of underground music sites. Easy to get mixed up.
Sorry

I hope that the writers will realize the fast change happening in
Grace and slow it down. Not bring it to a screeching halt, but
slower. They've got a good 4 and 1/2 more years to fool around with.
[Wishful thinking that the show will last at least that long]

33 West is actually from Fairfax, VA. I lucked into them a while
back because when I get bored I get online and look around for
obscure (therefore mostly good) bands. They're kind of a
punk/rock/ska/regge type of thing. Their website is
http://www.33westmusic.com if you're interested. [/plug]

Is 33West a west coast band? cause I'm east coast- never heard of them. I agree with you that we’re finally seeing the real Grace when she’s with Luke- problem with it is the real Grace creeps me out for some reason. The transformation seems too fast but I’m guessing that’s because her and Luke spent all summer together ( Does it seem like he never made it to space camp after all ?) They should’ve just ran a summer showing that way this sudden giggly girlie Grace would make sense to me. I think Adam’s known since Grace agreed to the whole science fair with Luke but he wisely kept his mouth shut and Joan probably has some suspicions- she did tell Luke it would be easier for them to just grope each other at the dance than building that gamma ray scope thingie…but then again she did bring up that how gay thing again so maybe she’s a bigger idiot than I’m giving her credit for. Awesome site too- I took a look. Biographies- um not sure if this was what ya had in mind but I have from the horse’s mouth so to speak in answer to a question in a fan letter that I sent that Becky’s only 5 foot 2 and that she’s had to stand on that box thingie twice during scenes with Michael. Payton

Amen to the no girlie girl Grace thing sister. As for the CDs- can you get them at FYE, Borders, Barnes and Nobles and such?

Carole

Yeah totally get that whole Buffy and Spike thing- interestingly enough I think they probably have a lot more in common than anyone realizes too- just like Luke and Grace. Grace said she wanted a smart guy ( in a round about way- the whole jocks with a small cerebral cortex thing)- she seems to have gotten more than she bargained for. Thanks for looking up the terms for us- I remembered hearing the whole buyer beware thing before but couldn’t place the reference. I hope we  won’t need a translator for the rest of the season. It was how she delivered the whole “I think I feel it” line that bugged me- Grace giggling? She basically confessed her feelings to Luke right then and there if he’s smart enough to notice. The whole I can feel the harmony between us concept that's implied there. Just tell him ya love him already will ya. I don’t think they’ll ruin Grace if they handle this the right way and stop it from happening so fast ( I’ve already explained my too fast complient up in shadowcrawlers). Grace has had her defenses up for so long and Luke’s blasting through them like they’re nothing…but maybe it’s just me – love conquers all right so maybe the timing is right after all.

OK, folks, I have a story to work on, as well as the relationship history, but I'm emailing about Friday's ep AGAIN.  Why?  Because you guys wrote awesome things.  And I could talk about our pair forever.
I think Luke's becoming more confident now that he knows he has Grace. Back when he never thought he had a chance with her he was meekier but now that he's probably been able to cop a feel once or twice he's secure that she likes him even if she won't admit. That leads him into holding his own with her...and I'm beginning to think that's probably why they're so good together...she might act like she doesn't understand him( and she probably doesn't sometimes) but he really seems to be the only one smart ( scuse me I should have said intelligent cause they're not the same thing- smirk) enough to hold his own with. Watch their exchanges- it's like being in a court room. Anybody wanna hazard a guess on what the perfect job for Grace is cause I think it's kinda of obvious though she'd have to go along  with the system.
I've always mantained that Luke has a reasonable amount of confidence.  He might be nervous at times, give up too easily (State of Grace--ugh and Only Connect), but I never get the sense that he's insecure with himself.  In both The Gift and Silence he took chances without a lot of fear of rejection.  I think that's one of the things that Grace likes about him.  He's not some insecure guy that comes off as egotistical (like Friedman), but he's also not insecure and timid (I think of Adam here.  Adam is a sweet guy, I like him, but I think Luke takes more chances.).

These two make great sparring partners.  It's kind of funny, I've never really liked or bought opposites attract, or bickering turns to passion couples (not to offend anyone, but think Spike and Buffy from BtVS).  But I don't really think that Grace and Luke fall into those categories.  I think they're more alike than different.  Both are intelligent, both have a sense of who they are, and both of them are more comfortable dealing with their thoughts than their feelings.  That last one is interesting, because it would seem that they wouldn't fit well if they both have difficulty dealing with emotion, but I think they approach it differently enough that they work really well.  Luke probably doesn't spend a lot of time on his feelings--he's more likely to use logic to puzzle problems out, but he is openly giving and caring to others.  Grace is probably the opposite.  She has closed herself off from people, but I think she spends a lot of time inside herself.  She may not be honest with herself all the time, but I think she reacts to things instinctively.
And why if Glynnis got some over the summer ( dear god her inhaling that guys face - GROSS- almost as bad as Friedman and Judith's kiss which I promptly felt like I should go and gargle away the fowl taste that immediately entered my mouth) why is she still after Luke?
You know, I didn't get the feeling that Glynis was exactly after Luke in the season premiere.  Her attention was fully on Grace in the hallway scene.  If she was still interested in Luke, why didn't stay behind and walk with him?  No, I think she's angry and jealous of Grace more than she wants Luke back.  After seeing her at the party, though, I wondered about that whole thing.  Is she over Luke?  Is she rebounding?  I'm wondering if we will see more of the dynamics between these three.  I hope so, just because I find it entertaining.  Heh. Glynis versus Grace is the mouse versus the tiger.

OK, I had to look up the terms Luke used at the party.

The dialog:
Grace - You put it on repeat in an attempt to circumvent our 5-minute make-out rule.

Luke - Free will between the amorous parties supersedes contractual duty, rendering our agreement void ab initio.

Grace - You're impaired, dude.

Luke - Caveat emptor. I have grounds to renegotiate.

amorous (Yes, I had to look it up)--Of or associated with love

void ab bi nitio--Not legally binding. A document that is void is useless and worthless; as if it did not exist. For example, in many countries, contracts for immoral purposes are said to be "void":unenforceable and not recognized by the courts. A good example is a contract to commit a serious crime such as murder.

Caveat emptor means let the buyer beware or that the buyers should examine and check for themselves things which they intend to purchase and that they cannot later hold the vendor responsible for the broken condition of the thing bought.

Huh.  Well, I'm not that much closer to understanding this.  It sounds like Luke is saying since the parties involved willingly went ahead and went against the rules in the contract, the contract isn't valid.  Hmmm, maybe the buyer beware thing was in reference to the fact that Grace should've known who she was dealing with, he is a very smart guy, and can get her on things like that.  I still don't understand why making out for over five minutes would cause the contract to be invalid--the contract had a five-minute *minimum* rule.

Whatever.  That scene's still really hot!

So, some of you thought Grace was too girly, huh?  Did it really *really* bug you, or just kind of annoy you?  Was it the whole episode?  A particular scene? A particular moment?  I did notice that Grace giggled in the music scene, but I thought it was rather sweet.  But I'm a big sap, anyway.  I didn't see the Kool and the Gang thing as her caving, just agreeing, though she probably could have delivered the line, "I think I feel it." more slyly.   I'm kind of wondering if people are going to start thinking that Grace's relationship with Luke ruined the character of Grace.  I don't think it will, because I think she's really a big softie anyway.  Luke and Grace is all about Luke knocking down her defenses.  At least that's my interpretation.  Is it just me that envisions the day when Grace breaks down in Luke's arms?

OK, I'd apologize for this long email, but that's why I made the list, dangit!  Heh, so you could all listen to me pontificate!  No, really, I love discussing this stuff, and love reading others' thoughts.  If you think I'm an idiot about anything I said, do tell me!

Warning: Stream of conciousness. May not make sense.

For those wondering, I believe what Luke said to Grace at the party
translates to something like "the buyer beware." I could be wrong,
but I'm pretty sure that it's.

This show gained like 50 coolness points for having one of Grace's
bands be 33 West. I was really surprised to hear them referenced,
obscure as they are. If Grace wasn't already my tv hero, she would be
now. That and the African drumming, which I've always been a fan of.
Former high school percussionist here.

Loved that their mutual hatred for Kool and the Gang is their common
ground. What else would you expect from these two? And "Celebration"
as their song? Excellent. I wouldn't expect anything less from them.

I don't really have a problem with Grace being happy and smilely and
such around Luke. Angry people aren't angry all the time, and she was
still good and sardonic around Joan, especially when meeting Judith.
Honestly, I think it's a side of her that's always been there, but
we've just never been able to see it. I think as she gets more
comfortable with this whole "relationship" whatever it is that
they've got going on, we'll see more of it and learn a little more
about who she really is under all the anger and sarcasm and pissed-
off-at-the-worldness.

I saw the whole Luke putting "Celebration" on the stereo coming when
he walked out to the hammock, but I still really liked that scene. I
love the way Grace just kind of really slowly looks over and sees
Luke standing there and nodding for her to follow him, then gets up
and goes. It did seem like it would be pretty obvious to any of the
bystanders if they weren't all drunk. And the talking around the
corner thing? Where it looks like Grace is talking to her locker and
Luke's talking to the wall? Yeah. Those two aren't very stealthy, but
it's still fun to watch them try.

I honestly can't wait until Joan finds out about them. I don't think
she'll freak out exactly, but it'll be really fun to watch her
reaction. And a part of me thinks Adam either already knows or has a
really good idea. I don't think Grace has told him, that would
violate the contract. But I think he's probably picked up on the
vibe. Another part of me thinks Helen has a pretty good idea. Last
week it was pretty obvious that she had some suspicions that Luke was
up to something, and as far as I know, she's the only other person
who knows he got Grace the geode.

Also, because it deserves to be said here too, Judith bugged the hell
out of me for some reason. I'm not sure what it was, but she bothered
me. She'd better be damned gratefull to Grace for saving her life.

And Friedman needs to be shoved in a toilet.

That is all.

OK I'm a dork I 'll admit it I took notes on last nights episode so I'd remember everything I wanted to cover cause I'm on limited time.
First off- Grace's locker. Anybody besides me nitpicking enough to notice that little evolution going on in there? It's like all of their lockers give us secrets into who they are. Grace went from a SORORITY GIRLS SUCK sticker to an icky PINK ! one that proudly proclaims LOVE DRUG ( I know there was one asking "is this infected?" at some point but I can't find the recap so I can get an exact quote on it) with something else in small print that I can't read. Seems vaguely like a self admission there. And how great is it that Grace's locker appears to have been moved and is no longer near Friedmans? I gotta say though I'm having a hard time with the locker thing in one respect- if I saw a guy hanging aroung a corner talking to a fire exstinguisher I'd do a double take. They keep that up and someone's gonna figure it out.

Anyone besides me trying to figure out Grace's ABBA, Swedish meatballs and drunks comment? If you have a clue let me know cause I sure don't.

OK what happened to Grace's grand resolve to kick Luke to the curb if he messed up? I expected at least half an episode with Luke apologizing over and over again for last weeks episode. She's such a goner. I mean seriously she sets up that whole music thing to get to know him better, acts like if they have nothing in common it's over and then goes along with Luke's whole our mutual dislike of Kool in the Gang harmonenizes ( I so can't spell!) our discordant inner rythums. Huh? She's lost it. Carole knows I wanted her to be nice to him last night but seriously- this girlie Grace thing is sickening. I felt like I was drowning in sap and yet I found her slow transformation oddly fascinating so I rewound it and played it over and over again. Was it me or did she actual giggle? I have to confess though to a love of Kool in the Gang's CELEBRATION. I liked both their music though and I wonder Grace's favorites are real groups. Somebody find out cause I'm dying to know.

OK now the party- that was nuts! Judith and Friedman- oh brother. I totally get the PRETTY IN PINK ( must confess love that movie) reference. At least Friedman's improved from the whole Artie Ziff of the Simpsons reference. His clothes have finally hit the 80's. Did Grace seem freaked at the party with the drinking? Her, Luke, and Adam seem to be the only ones who weren't bombed. And why if Glynnis got some over the summer ( dear god her inhaling that guys face - GROSS- almost as bad as Friedman and Judith's kiss which I promptly felt like I should go and gargle away the fowl taste that immediately entered my mouth) why is she still after Luke? And Grace would never make a good spy- if she stood up any slower to avoid people looking at her when Luke turned on that song she would have been standing still! way to not attract attention. I agree that their cute little party scene was way too short. Does anybody know Latin cause I want to know what Luke said to her? All I know is Carpe diem- Seize the day, which seemed very appropriate to the circumstances.
Anyway that's all I can think of.- KARA

OK, how cute were they??  First, thanks goodness Grace was a little more open to Luke this ep, even if she dissed him at the party, but more about that later.  I loved the scene where they met to exchange music.  It was nice to see them have a conversation again, and a couple-y conversation at that!   I also like that Luke didn't say he liked her music to avoid the possibility of them breaking up--way to be firm, Luke.  And the best part, when he said, "This is our song," the look she gave him before they kissed?  Sheer love.  OK, maybe not love, love, yet, but she's in this.  Deep.  But we knew that,

I also loved her conversation with Joan about Abba.  "He listens to Abba?  Not that I care."  She's as lousy as being covert at this as one would expect Luke to be, maybe even moreso.  I'm looking forward to Joan finding out.  That will be entertaining.

The hammock scene was great, simply because at the end, Luke frowned a bit as if saying, "I can change that."  And of course, they're making out at the party was just awesome, probably my favorite scene between them, although is was way too short.  I loved how confident and suave Luke was.  I've always thought he had it in him.  They're just hot.

What did everybody else think?   I just have one rule:  If you discuss anything in reference to spoilers, please indicate so in the subject.  I'm not sure who does and doesn't read them, so let's make sure we don't give anything away to those who don't want to know.

Anxious to hear everyone's thoughts.

Carole

To Carole for inviting me. I'm a big shipper all around (especially
Joan/Adam) but there's just something about Grace/Luke, you know?
Anyway, very excited to be here. Like I said, Carole, I'll try to
offer up some fanfic and stuff as soon as I can, If you want feel
free to post some of the Luke/Grace fics I've got at my yahoogroup or
fanfiction.net.

This is gonna be a blast!

Shadow, I'll definately clean up that post for you.  I'd been trying to get another chapter of Beneath done before tonight, but seeing as that's not going to happen anyway, I'll work on the history and send it to you ASAP.

I can't wait!

I posted this on fanforum.com also, so if you've already read it
there, you don't need to worry about it.

I figured I'd stop by and give an update on the website. It's halfway
done so it'll definitely be up by tomorrow night. I'm in desperate
need of fanfic, so if any of you have some you'd be willing to share,
please do.

Also, if anyone out there is interested in writing up original bios
of Luke and Grace (possibly Becky and Michael, too), and could get
them to me by sometime tomorrow, that would be really awesome and
you'd be my hero. With all the other stuff I don't have time to write
them myself, and I don't want to take them from another site because
that's pretty much plagiarism.

I have a relationship outline, but I could definitely use a detailed
relationship history and some interpretations or something.
VanillaBean, I know you have that one huge post somewhere, so if you
wanted to take it and clean it up a little bit (or I could if you
prefer) you would be my other hero.

That's pretty much it. Of course, art, videos, and all that jazz are
always and will always be welcome.

Ok, off to work some more. Wish me luck.

OK, yet another something I found.  http://www.joanofarcadia.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=202 has clips of interviews of the cast members.  I hadda share, because of Becky's clip...look at her smile as she discusses Grace's romance!!  I'm loving Becky right now.  There's on from Michael too, but sadly they don't discuss his love life.

Yep, that's the name.

Ok people, I know you're probably all going just as crazy waiting
for the site as I am building it. Or maybe not. But anyway, for fun
I went ahead and put up a little 'coming soon' page, complete with a
plug for Chemical Breakdown. Check it out:

http://www.freewebs.com/lg2p/index.htm

Also, keep checking back because at least a basic site should be up
and running by sometime Saturday night.

Thank you, come again.

Sounds good, Shadow, I am really excited to see what you come up with.  I know it will be awesome, and I can't wait!

As for names, well, I didn't even come up with Chemical Breakdown!  But I do have some ideas.  I still like the idea of a name like, "Not Everything's About Science."  I think it would also be cool to have the website named after something significant in their relationship, like "The Unrung Bell" (not my favorite--that bell has, a continues to ring!) or something about the geode, or the rail gun, or the lamp shade.  Or, "Service Providers."

Yeah, like I said, I suck at names to, but maybe this will get other people's juices flowing.  As for the poll, every member should be able to create polls, so Shadow, I'm going to let you do that.  If you find out you can't create a poll, or need help (it's easy) let me know.

Yes, I'm replying to my own message.

Ok, I lied. We're not on prohosting.com anymore. I realized it
sucks. Quite hard, actually. I sucked it up and bought 100megs of
space for 10 bucks a year. It will now serve as two sites in one,
the other being my online portfolio to help me get a job. But that's
not the point. The point is we now have more space. That means we
can have videos and stuff.

Still need a name though, so any suggestions will be greeted with
applause and praise.

That is all. Hopefully.

A big, big thank you to ShadowCrawler!  She was nice enough to make a special banner for the Chemical Breakdown homepage.  Check it out!  Shadow does a great job at making beautiful pictures.  I know because I've snagged a lot of them, and made a slide show of them for my screen saver.  It makes me happy to look at all the pretties!

I found MW's official website, and posted the link to it on the page.  There's a link to Links on the menu bar.  Also, please feel free to post links, photos, files, etc., of anything you find/make to the website.

Hey, speaking of Michael's website, there's an email address for him over there if anyone is interested.  Of course, I had to email him, I even told him about Chemical Breakdown.  I'm not holding my breath for a response, but how cool would that be?

Welcome to our new members!  We're up to 9 now, and the list has been in existence for just 24 hours!  I think that's a very good sign!

Because science really is like sex to Luke
Because relationships that work don't always make sense
Because he got Grace to the Crystal Ball without ever asking
Because he's a moose, not an elk
Because a gift should just happen, shouldn't it?

OK, folks. ShadowCrawler is creating a Luke and Grace website, and I think it would be nice for her to have something from Chemical Breakdown.

I really like the Reasons Why lists, so I will start one, and let's see how many reasons we can come up with. So....

Reasons why Luke and Grace belong together:

1) Because you can't unring a bell.
2) Because not everything is about science.
3) Because he knew she'd love the geode.
4) Because she still had pull.
5) Because he's a service provider.
6) Because he told her it was hot that she knew that what burns is the gas released when the wood gets hot. Therefore the reaction would have to be gasification, through oxidation reduction, then combustion.

OK, I'm sure I'll think of others, but I wanted to see if I could get a thread going, and I've been thinking that this would be a fun thing to do for a while.

Welcome! I'm excited about this email list. I think it will be lots
and lots of fun, because—well, Luke and Grace!

I have to ask you guys to be patient with me. I've never owned a
mailing list, so I'm still figuring things out. For instance, the
first email I send bounced! :( Not sure why that happened. I'm
posting this on the website---if you see a few test messages come,
it's just me trying to figure out the email thing.

Do you guys know each other? I know Payton, mostly from her fabulous
Grace/Luke stories on FanFiction.net. And I know that ShadowCrawler
makes the most beautiful fanart of our couple that I have seen!
Robynne is Sooz (from FanForum), who came up with the fabulous site
name! Heh, ok, so we all know each other, since we obviously hang
around FanForum, but hopefully we'll get people from other places
too, so we'll have a home of our own. I guess that means I need to
get out there and advertise, huh?

Bye for now.

Carole
