I just decided that we need to have a rule embarked. When a post about an
episode
is made, NO SPOILER SPACE IS NEEDED. But, that doesnt mean any conversation of
an episode can be made anywhere for someone to stumble upon and have that
episode
ruined. ANY TALK OF ANY EPPY THIS SEASON WILL HAVE TO BE IN AN EMAIL CLEARLY
MARKED FOR THAT EPISODE.the subject will have to say the date [like the 2nd or
3rd eppy this season would say "01/28/2005"] or the title of the eppy [again
with
the same episode "Uncertainty Principle"]. IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW THE ABOVE
RULES,YOU WILL HAVE MODERATED MESSAGES FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. If, once
you come off moderate messages and you dont follow the rules AGAIN, you will be
banned. Two chances, thats it.

NOW- I made this rule cause I think its a waste of time to have to do
spoiler space in every email.

Now no posting mean or rude emails complaining about "I read a spoiler that
had no spoiler space!" cause well they wont anymore.

Now if you post an OT about something else like a movie or different show
with spoilers, spoiler space is required.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to email me at
stephiehopebell@...

Thanks,

This is sad news, but considering the ratings, I am not surprised.  I think the
series has run out of very interesting and exciting material. After all, it has
been on the air for 6 years and I feel it has run its course. I will be sad to
see it leave, but that goes with the lack of viewers and the lack of better
scripts.

CBS Reduces Numb3rs, Increases Order for NCIS, CSI and More

http://static.tvguide.com/MediaBin/Content/091102/News/Todays_News_Our_Take/3_wed/091104numb3rs1.jpg

Numb3rs

The episode total for Numb3rs has been scaled back — from 22 to 16, TVGuide.com has confirmed.

CBS reduced the crime drama's season order, first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, leaving uncertain the 6-year-old show's future. The show premiered this season to 7.92 million viewers (and a 1.8 rating among adults 18-to-49). It's most recent episode brought in 7.8 million viewers (and a 1.7 rating among 18-to-49).

Watch full episodes of Numb3rs

TVGuide.com also has confirmed that the network increased the season order from 22 to 24 episodes for CSI: Miami, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, How I Met Your Mother and Two and a Half Men. CBS also increased orders for CSI, CSI: NY, Criminal Minds, The Good Wife, The Mentalist and The Big Bang Theory to 23 episodes. Those pickups were first reported by Entertainment Weekly.

What do you think of Numb3rs' cutback?

Geek Love: 5 Brains we adore

Posted by Featherlite on August 10th, 2009 - (5) Comments

http://www.writerswrite.com/pics/charlie_eppes_numb3rs.gif The Evolution of Criminalistics

Remember when Quincy was cutting edge science?  Don't worry, neither does anybody else.

Geeks burst upon the scene when CSI premiered in fall of 2000.  Suddenly the lab was the coolest place on television.

DNA was just coming into mainstream acceptance and old cases were being overturned as technology caught up the evidence that was left behind at crime scenes years ago.   If Cops was successful in showing the arrests, viewers were rabid to what happened next.  Taking the audience into the lab opened up a whole new world where it became apparent that the perfect crime was becoming much harder to pull off.

The science geeks opened the door to their siblings, the computer geeks, and their cousins, the academic geeks.  It wasn't enough to simply solve current crimes anymore.   The CSI spin-offs begat sub-genres, and the realm of the geek quickly spread to military crimes and specialized evidence.

***

Charlie Epps, Numb3rs.  Not all geeks have unhealthy relationships with their keyboards.  This Cal-Sci mathematics professor prefers to work old school with chalk and dry-erase markers.  Each week, he helps his FBI-agent brother by reducing complex theories to their lowest common denominator to show how math can be used to predict human responses.  Algebra class was never this interesting.

Cost Estimation

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_fAQjZEYGO7I/SnZUpLhTQhI/AAAAAAAADgk/DDlDbHA0Ovw/s400/numbers.jpgFor a the last few seasons, CBS has been showing a TV show called Numb3rs. The show's premise is the unimaginitive take off on the family-solving-mysteries storyline that has been around since Scooby Doo and at the earliest the Hardy Boys. Of course, Numbers has some thngs that are different – the boys are employed and older. Don Eppes, the older brother, heads a team of federal agents located in LA – a giant step above the amateur detective ways of the Hardy boys. Charlie Eppes is a certified math genius and teaches as a professor at the made-up university of Cal Sci.

Each week, Don and his street-savvy FBI team encounter a problem, usually a time sensitive one, which is just too tough to figure out through traditional police work. Like clockwork, Professor Charlie Eppes and his team of socially-awkward yet brilliant mathematicians are able to use some form of advanced mathematics to accomplish a whole list of things from predicting where a kidnapping will happen next to the contents of boxes.

And while a great deal of that is Hollywood magic, taking lab theory and shoehorning it into unrealistic time periods with even less realistic amounts of data, there is one part of the show that I always admire. During the hour-long show, the young Professor Eppes must give an explanation to a complex, doctoral-level mathematical system in a way that a team of federal agents can understand. This happens every single episode with such predictability that the character in the show have started to expect it, even making jokes and attempting to give their own explanations.

Charlie's explanations are definitely a way to move the story forward and also to convince the television viewers that his genius mathematical insights aren't simply a weekly deus ex machine. However, just as Charlie has to explain how his math models the real world, the use of software estimation can often seem just as improbable. True, you can sit back and say "Well, the program relies on parametric modeling of our current situation," but that look is far more likely to generate blank stares than anything else.

I just decided that we need to have a rule embarked. When a post about an

RULES,YOU WILL HAVE MODERATED MESSAGES FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. If, once
you come off moderate messages and you dont follow the rules AGAIN, you will be

NOW- I made this rule cause I think its a waste of time to have to do
spoiler space in every email.

I understand what you are saying and with the ending on Friday, I too was wondering the same thing because they were talking about their changes this year the last 5 minutes.  I hope it was just a reflection of what the changes brought to the characters and not ending the show.  I too was wondering about the proposal... while it being beautiful and all... that was the last scene.... so lets just hope that the powers that be will think to renew it for another season.

OK, I've heard 2 different things. A month ago I read that CBS wasn't making any decisions about any shows till sometime in May. On some of the sites I go to for ratings, Numb3rs has always been listed a "likely renewal." On another group, someone told me it had indeed been renewed, but I've read nothing to confirm that, like I've not seen any lists or anything yet. I'm hoping it has been renewed....

Is there going to be another season? I thought they might end the show with the
proposal. Kind of a touching way to end it.
