Season 2.5 to me =AAAaaaggghhhhhhh!!! Plenty of Season 2.5 spoilers and griping included

Yeah, I found the whole "new Caprica" arc to be a
little disapointing, and kind of felt that way about
season "2.5" in general.

I was glad to see they got the Caprica freedom
fighters involved, that they have found a way to
produce more ships and side characters (thanks to
Pegasus), that they had the election AND that we all
saw the birth of the cylon baby. Lee Adama was left
floating in space, put in the role of John Mclain from
Die Hard, and made the CO of the Pegasus in a double
quick few set of episodes.

They did a lot, but to me it didn't feel like they
moved the story as much as they used 2.5 to amp up the
soap opera elements of the show.

To me, seasons 1 and 2.0 gave us a real sense of
desperation that did not seem to convey as well in
2.5. Their situation seemed much better after
Pegasus, so it didn't make as much sense to me for
them all to settle down. It was if they had finally
begun to make some progress on their mission and
decided to just give up.

Also very frustrating about season 2.5 is the passage
of time. Seasons 1 and 2.0 felt as if everything in
them happened in real time, as if we went along with
Galactica every step of the way. This time around,
several episodes spanned weeks, months or years, and
the space between episodes would often reprent weeks
or months. This felt to me like kind of a cheap
gimmick. "yyx (months, year, etc) later" was okay
the first time, but like those backward episodes, the
trick got a little overused.

Finally, I felt as if too many subplots were left
unsatisfied, resolved too easily, or ignored
alltogether.

1) where's the cylon baby? Is she in Roslyn's class?
2) Why didn't Baltar's connection to the cylons ever
get used against him? Did anyone else feel as if the
subplot with the other six get settled too easily?
The most wanted criminal in the entire fleet and no
one could find her? A bomb stolen from Baltar's lab
ends up in the hands of the cylons and no one suspects
him? How things have changed since the accusations of
season 1, especially given that in the ep where a #6
accused him of going with the cylons all the crew
assumed he was guilty.
3) Where was Tom Zarek in all this? The guy was a
major advisor to Baltar who all but disapeared after
the election. My feeling is that with him looming in
the current administration, we should have felt more
of his influence in new Caprica.
3) Lee and Starbuck's relationship. Woah. What
happened here? They drew these characters far apart
and took them out further. It was cool to see Helo
get moved into the role of friend and advisor, but Lee
was finally starting to become cool before they
blasted him off into space...
4) Pegasus- What about her crew? I would have loved
to have seen one ep dedicated to new cast members,
their dramas, and their reaction to the loss of three
chief officers. Are we to believe they just accepted
their integration into the colonial fleet without any
hiccups?
5) The Prophecy: Totally ignored near the end, and we
weren't given any indication as to how much closer to
earth they have gotten.
6) the Cylons: The Episode featuring the original
Boomer and Baltar's original girlfriend was probably
my favorite episode of the season. Why couldn't they
show another one to explain what happened with the
cylons? The preacher's message seemed too convenient.
We needed one more ep!

Okay, with all this complaining, ya'll are probably
ready to give me the "Lee Adama award" for whining too
much, so let me get to the goodies:

I love this show and did feel season 2.5 did have some
great moments. Watching Starbuck reunite with her old
love, the destruction of the ressurection ship, and
the creation of the rebel faction of the cylons were
all fascinating plot twists I want to see laid out
more in the future.

To me, this was Galactica's "growing pains" season. A
lot of shows go through similar growing pains around
this time. THe SHield had an awful season 3.
Sopranos and Andromeda had great season 3's that were
followed by lackluster and underperforming season 4's.
Star Trek TNG went through a few seasons where the
highly unpopular Wesley was made a major character.
Fortunately, all these shows came back and
overperformed (Andromeda is a bit of an exception. I
liked Rhade and pretty much nothing else about season
5), so this gives me hope that the next season of BSG
will be bigger and better than 2.5.
