Bea Smith served time for killing her hubby's mistress. The show started
with her being released from prison and murdering her husband - that was
episode one!

Hi everyone
I've just joined this group & I have an interest in collecting pics
of our female TV soap stars.

My collection covers about 35 years of Oz TV. My favorite "babe" is
Alexandra Fowler from "Sons & Daughters" & "Big Sky". I have a lot of
pics of Rebecca Gilling, Lenore Smith & even Victoria Nicholls
from "The Restless Years". She was a lot better looking then (before
the zany days of sale of the century).
I have some fantastic pic of Kim Wran too (remember her?) -what ever
happened to her? Amazing she didn't follow her father into politics.
I only recently come across great pics of Delvine Delany from "The
Box" days - 1974 to be exact. These are displayed at my website.

I am interested in swapping with others & I have a website at
www.geocities.com/dxer2_2000/index.html

Hard to get this website up on search engines. You really need to
look hard for it!
Some of you may already know the site of course.
Cheers
Geoff

Yeah, she did disguise herslf - Val Leham refused to film the stoyline with
Alan the bloke being admitted to Wentworth so she went on the run. However,
she was caught and returned to Wentworth. She was sent to Barnhurst (ep
400) - around ep 600 (after Val had refused to return) they said she had
been killed in a fire.

It was odd, they all remembered good old Bea - but none of the cast were in
it when she was - a bit weird.

Can someone please refresh my memory as to what happened to Bea Smith
in "Prisoner" (or "Cell Block H" for anyone overseas)?

My vague recollection was that Bea managed to disguise herself as a
prison officer and walked through the gates of Wentworth to freedom
under the watch of her 'fellow' guards.
However, upon watching an episode of Prisoner from the DVD that has
just been released, there is mention that Bea Smith was instead sent
off to Barnhurst and apparently later burned to death in a prison fire
there. But yet I'm almost certain, however vague my recollection is,
that Bea did the disguise bit to walk out of Wentworth? Maybe that
did happen and she ended up back inside, but I seem to recall that the
disguise storyline marked her big exit from Prisoner.

Tuning into Big Brother tonight I caught the end credits of "Neighbours" and
noticed that one time "Prisoner" actor Maggie Millar has joined the series
as a character named Rosie. Rosie is also shown in the closing image showing
Lou and Harold, which to me indicates that Rosie must be intended as a sort
of Madge replacement, and that she will be a key character in the series.

Millar of course played the legendary villain Marie Winter in "Prisoner".

There was a rumour late last year that Olivia Hamnett had passed away,
however I saw nothing official about this, only a couple of forwarded
emails.

Certainly Val Lehman, a fellow 'Prisoner' actor when they were both in the
show 20 years ago, has not heard any official word, so this might just be a
rumour.

At a guess, I'd say she would have been mid 20's in Skyways (which was
1979)? That's either complimenting her or offending her, I know, but
considering these days she's mostly cast in "mother" roles of
teenagers or young adults that may put her around the middle 40's now.

Talking about youngies in Skyways - Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue,
both aged around 11 at the time, were guest stars in Skyways around
1979 playing brother and sister.

bonk any man that came onto the prison grounds. LOL

Tina Bursill can't be all that old because she's also
been In Farscape in the episode "Look at the princess" Part 1-3
and she did not look all that bad in there.

So she must have been very young when she did Skyways. Anyone
know here age?

Wow! Difficult call! Could it have been "Prisoner"? Or perhaps "Number 96"?

The woman from "Skyways" you describe was played by actor Tina Bursill who
went on to play the classy but sinister Sonia Stevens in "Prisoner". She has
also appeared in "Heartbreak High" and "Home and Away" among her many TV
appearances.

I can't help you I'm afraid, but somebody at the "Australian TV

All I know about the show is that it was hosted by Jimmy Hannan and he

Of all the best Soap Operas which had the best lead actresses?

For shere memory lasting quality the one that I can recall at
the drop of a hat was one of the leads in Skyways. She was
one of the higher ups at the airport. I think her name was
Louise but I could be wrong.

Anyway she stands out as far as remembering goes. Any others
anyone can recall?

I think there are a few sites around on the net about
soap shows and the like. A good place to start is the
IMDB http://www.imdb.com and just type the title of the
show you are looking for. Usually this is the best way
and the IMDB is pretty darn accurate.

Or you could go to search engines like Google at
http://www.google.com and do a similar search for
pages containing the subject you are after. I find
Google handy for looking up pictures of actors and
that kind of stuff.

Hope this helps

The best place to find out all about your favourite actors is the Internet
Movie Database. This is a regularly updated site listing cast lists for
nearly every movie ever produced, and most soaps are listed there too.

Go here www.imdb.com and use the search facility to look up your favourite
show or actor.

Another website, http://www.classicaussiesoaps.com contains a detailed entry
on The Young Doctors as well as a brief article on Alfred Sandor.

Our changing TV viewing habits

By LUKE DENNEHY, entertainment reporter
30 Jan 2002

AUSTRALIAN television viewers are switching off soaps and trashy talk shows
such as Jerry Springer.

A survey by Optus and ACNielsen found that soaps and talk shows are the
least-watched programs. Instead, viewers have a thirst for new knowledge.
Optus TV marketing manager Kathy Hatzis said viewers were increasingly using
TV to find out what was happening around the world.

"After September 11 people are wanting to be more in touch with what's going
on around the world, as it can impact on their own life," Ms Hatzis said.

"Previously people were most interested in movies and sport; now news is
really coming through."

The survey, of about 1000 viewers, found that:

MOST people watch six or more hours a week of documentaries, quiz shows,
sitcoms and drama. Last year nine of the top 10 raters fitted this category.

THE average viewer watches two hours of sport a week.

FAMILIES are watching more current affairs with most watching three to five
hours a week.

MOST families watch two to four hours of movies a week.

UP to 40 per cent of Australians want to watch documentaries.

MOTHERS have the power when it comes to the remote control. They control the
remote 56 per cent of the time, compared with 30 per cent for children and
14 per cent for fathers.

The Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com) features cast lists of varying
degrees of completeness for most of the shows listed on the Aussie Soap
Archive website.

The URLs listed below point to the cast lists for some of the shows. The
cast list for Prisoner is extremely comprehensive; even some briefly
glimpsed guest characters and bit players are listed. Cop Shop and Skyways
list only the main characters. The Number 96 entry is very comprehensive.

Here are the URLs:

Prisoner http://us.imdb.com/Title?0077064

Cop Shop http://us.imdb.com/Title?0082201

Skyways http://us.imdb.com/Title?0155448

Number 96 http://us.imdb.com/Title?0068114

Also, the Who's Who in Wentworth website, at
http://www.wwwentworth.co.uk/induct.htm
provides an even more comprehensive cast list. *All* credited actors are
listed on the site, with details of the character they played, and the
episodes in which they appeared. The site also contains a detailed synopsis
for most, if not all, of Prisoner's 692 episodes, and lots of other goodies.
Well worth checking out.

Well if anyone knows where to get a full cast
list for Prisoner from all seasons complete
with both actor and character names I'd be kind
of happy.

Also one for Skyways and Cop Shop

I would just like to say a big hello to
everyone and thank you for letting me
join.

I found this list via an ad in a local newsgroup.

I also went to the website in that ad and boy
what memories. I remember most of the shows
that were featured on that site.

Congratulations to whoever created that because
it was a good page.

Well I'll post something else when I can think
up something decent to ask. Prolly a million
questions I could ask.
