Here's what I remember:

Ray was attacking Rhonda Wexler and Alan threw him through a window and killed him.

Monica was fighting breast cancer at the time and yes, Katherine was blackmailing the Q's  and married Ned as part of her scheme.

Monica convinced Sean that she needed Alan's help now more than ever and couldn't handle Alan going to jail.  Sean said that since Ray didn't matter to society, the case would be closed.

I think that is about the jist of it.  If anyone else has more insight, you can feel free to add.
