This week's ABH is rated TV-14. Hope you all enjoy!!!
Adam has been abroad, touring. You however were stuck at your job. You
didn't worry when the tabloids speculated that he was dating his assistant
of the week. It was you he called every night. You didn't even worry when
the press made a big fuss over how beautiful his new blonde manager was or
how good they looked together. He was still writing once a week, and sent
flowers on your anniversary. When you saw them kiss on a television
interview however, you felt like a knife went through your heart. The calls
and letters also abruptly stopped. Last week, your birthday passed
unnoticed. The last interview you saw on the television, they were sitting
almost atop one another, and she was wearing a ring.
You know, only because you caught the interview, that Adam is coming back to
town today. You wonder if he'll even bother to contact you, if he will even
try to explain seeing as he has shown you no courtesy so far. You're calling
in sick to work today. It's hardly a lie. You've been crying your eyes out
all weekend. You have a pounding headache and you look like hell.
You slip on a pair of well-worn jeans, a white tee shirt, and pull your hair
back into a quick ponytail. You have a list of the things you will need for
your day: tissues, about a pound of chocolate, and a couple of movies where
someone kills their unfaithful lover. You grab your purse and head out to
procure the items on your list. As you open the door, you almost run smack
into Adam. Part of you wants to beat him to a pulp. Part of you wants to
grab him and hold him. Unfortunately, the part of you that wins out is the
part that wants to go into hysterics. You can feel your lip tremble, the
tears fall from your eyes. You grab hold of the door and prepare to slam it
in his face. He catches the door and pushes his way in.
You back up, and then turn to try to hide your face as the tears become
uncontrollable. "What do you want? What more do you want? Just go away!"
"I wanted to talk to you, to ask you why you stopped calling me."
You turn to him, incredulous. "You don't think I tried to call after I saw
you and her on the TV, kissing? I was told in no uncertain terms that you
weren't accepting my calls any longer. When my letters came back return to
sender, I finally got it through my head and stopped trying. It's not like
you were writing or calling...or caring."
"Wait a minute, I'm confused..."
"I thought you loved me...or at least cared a little about me. Enough to at
least be a man and tell me if you wanted to be with someone else...not
this..." You've reached you breaking point. You turn once again to try to
get out of the room at least before you fall totally apart. It's too late
for that though. You drop to the floor on the spot, sobbing.
Before you know what is happening, Adam is sitting down on the floor beside
you, pulling you onto his lap. He is holding you in a tight embrace, cooing
to you softly as he kisses and strokes your hair. His touch seems to
physically alleviate the tightness that has been in your chest since you saw
that kiss. For the first time in weeks, you take a deep breath. It goes a
long way toward calming you. Soon, you've stopped crying and are looking
into his eyes. "So you came to finally tell me good-bye?"
He tucks your hair behind your ear as he shakes his head. "Something isn't
right here. I did try to call you but I was told your line had been
disconnected. And I swear to you, I wrote every week, actually three or four
times a week once I couldn't call anymore. I never refused any of your calls
and I never sent any of your letters away."
You stand and go to your closet. You pull out a shoebox which you bring to
Adam and sit in his lap. As you sit beside him, he opens it and his jaw
drops. It is filled with the returned letters that you wrote him. "I don't
understand."
You however are starting to get a sneaking suspicion. "What about that
kiss?"
"She kissed me Love. I..."
"And the ring?"
"She said she'd become engaged." Adam's green eyes meet your own. He seems
to have picked up on the same thing you have. "You never got your birthday
present?"
You fight down a new bout of tears at the mention of your birthday. You
manage a bitter smile. "I didn't get a call, a card. I cried so hard that
night that I spent the rest of it in the bathroom throwing up."
Adam winces at the thought of you in that much pain. You understand now by
looking at him that he never would have willingly put you through that. You
stand and begin to pace. "Your manager was the one who told me you were
refusing my calls."
Adam stands as well. "She was who I had dial out to you as well, and told me
you were disconnected." He moves to your side and takes your face in his
hands. "You are the one I love," he whispers. "I am so sorry."
"No I'm sorry Adam. I should have waited till I saw you. I shouldn't hav..."
He stops your mouth with a passionate kiss, one that tries to both make
things up to one another and prove your love is all it ever was.
Adam pulls away a little, smiling and teary eyed. "There's something that I
have to do. I will be back in one hour. I promise."
"I believe you." You smile. "I'll be here."
You spend the next hour straightening up your place and trying to fix your
face and hair into almost presentable condition. You change from your casual
shopping clothes to simple light colored sundress. Exactly one hour after
Adam left, there is a knock on your door.
You run to the door and open it to find Adam. He is not alone. He has
brought four men with him, each carrying as many roses as they can
physically manage. They enter and place the vases around the edge of the
room then depart, closing the door behind them. You arch an eyebrow at Adam
and he smiles at you.
"I reclaimed one or two things from my former manager."
"Former?"
"By the time I get done, they won't let her manage a Taco Bell."
You giggle. He brings one arm out from behind his back. In it, he holds a
shoebox. "Firstly, I found the letters I wrote. I thought you might still
want them." You nod vigorously and he smiles, placing the box on the table
by the door. "Secondly," he moves his other hand forward, holding it
straight out in a fist, "I found your birthday present." He opens his hand
and something drops, dangling from his finger. You move closer, hanging from
a silver chain is a delicate sapphire heart with a crystal arrow appearing
to pierce it. "Do you like it?"
"I love it Adam. Put it on me?" Adam nods and unclasps it. You turn your
back to him and lift your hair. He places it around your neck and closes the
clasp. Just as you start to lower your hair, his hand holds it up out of his
way and he places soft kisses on the back of your neck. You gasp and close
your eyes. You will never be able to put into words just how much you've
missed his touch. His other hand moves the strap of your sundress to the
side and off your shoulder. He releases your hair, moving his kisses to the
new terrain. Adam's arms snake tightly around your waist. He turns you to
him quickly, eliciting another gasp. Adam smiles before claiming your lips
with his own. He lifts you into his arms and carries you into the bedroom...
Have a Magical Monday!
