You turn out your lights and sigh as you move to your bedroom. You've been
completely alone and have had a miserable holiday. You had hoped Rupert
would have gotten back from London today but apparently not. 'Oh well,' you
think, 'Stupid of me to make such a fuss. It's just another day.' One you
are now just looking forward to ending. You crawl under the covers and pull
them up to your neck. You wipe a tear from your eyes as you close them and
try to drift to sleep.

Moments later, you're sure you hear movement in your living room. You
convince yourself it's nothing and try to get back to sleep. A crash has you
sitting straight up in your bed. 'Great.' You hop silently from the bed and
grab a stake, making your way to the living room. You know vampires can't
enter unless invited, but you're not taking any chances. A stake will stop
almost anything it needs to if you use it right.

You enter the living room and find the fireplace alight. You swallow a lump
in your throat and try not to get the shakes. You now know without any doubt
that someone is definitely here. You can see a square shaped object sitting
on the corner of your coffee table. You move closer to find an elegantly
wrapped gift. You relax a little, now fairly sure who your mysterious Santa
is.

You lift the hem of your ankle-length gown and kneel near the table. As your
hands touch the box, you smile, sensing a presence behind you. "When did
your plane get in?"

"Half hour ago. I came right over." Rupert kneels behind you, his arms
coming around you in a hug. "I'm sorry I'm so late." He kisses your neck.

You toss the stake into the fire. "You're here now. That's all I care
about."

"Well?"

"Well what?" You turn your head and look at him over your shoulder. He
kisses you, the firelight dancing in his glasses.

"Well aren't you going to open your gift?" You smile and begin to unwrap it.
When the paper is off, you lift the lid and peer in. Rupert is placing light
kisses on the back of your neck, arms wrapped possessively around your
waist. Inside the box is a book. You delicately remove the obviously
antique, slightly tattered, leather-bound tome. You gasp a little as you
gingerly open the cover. "The Fall of the House of Usher." You look at the
copyright date. "It's a first edition." You look at him, a bit awestruck. "I
can't believe you sometimes."

He smiles. "I'm sure you mean that in a good way?" You kiss him. And kiss
him. And kiss him, until he pulls away, laughing. You carefully set the book
back in the box and spring to your feet. Rupert catches your hand. "Well
wait, where are you going?"

"To get your present." You try to move off for the bedroom.

His hand pulls you back. You lose your balance and land in his lap. One hand
supports your waist while the other cups your cheek. "I've got my present
right here." Rupert kisses you tenderly and lays you down in front of the
fire.
